A smart pill that offers a view of the digestive tract
Using a tiny pill, we can now see what’s inside our patients’ small intestine. Capsule endoscopy is a state-of-the-art wireless camera that looks like a vitamin pill. As the patient swallows this capsule, it takes thousands of pictures as it travels through the digestive tract.
What was previously very challenging for conventional endoscopy to reach is now within range using capsule endoscopy. This ultra-modern technology can be used by both adults and children, allowing us to take images of the inside lining of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine.
It is the perfect tool to diagnose and detect the presence of GI problems such as:
- Abdominal pain
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Inflammatory bowel disease
Please note, however, that this particular procedure is primarily used for diagnosis purposes. Should further treatment be needed, we will perform a full endoscopic procedure to correct the problem.
